RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
· Approval of the Ordinance.
ITEM SUMMARY:
· This Ordinance will accomplish the following:
o Extend the reduced speed school zone along Bristol Drive for Wilmeth Elementary School.
o Rescind the ordinance establishing parking restrictions on the streets adjacent to Wilmeth Elementary (thereby allowing modifications to be made under the authority of the Traffic Engineer).
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
School Zone Modification
· The west end of the reduced speed school zone on Bristol Drive for Wilmeth Elementary School ends at the school property line.
· The Wilmeth Elementary School officials have modified the drop-off and pick-up patterns by adding a location in the back of the school. This change necessitates the extension of the reduced speed school zone on Bristol Drive.
· The additional pedestrian activity in the vicinity of the western school driveway requires the school zone on Bristol Drive to be extended 200 feet farther west.
Parking Regulation Modification
· The changes to the drop-off and pick-up patterns at Wilmeth Elementary and the completion of the full width pavement of Bristol Drive adjacent to Wilmeth Elementary, result in the need to modify the parking restrictions in this area.
· In 2008, City Council delegated to the Traffic Engineer the authority for parking regulations within McKinney.
· The existing parking regulations at Wilmeth Elementary were established prior to 2008 by an ordinance specific to this area; therefore, it is necessary to repeal the specific parking ordinance before the modifications are made under the authority of the Traffic Engineer.
