RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
· Discuss the downtown parking study update and the location of a possible downtown parking garage.
ITEM SUMMARY:
· At the April 14, 2014 City Council Work Session, Council requested that in conjunction with the planned update to the downtown parking study's existing parking demand and parking counts, that an evaluation of the location of a potential downtown parking garage be included.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
· In 2009, the City of McKinney's Planning Department conducted a downtown parking study which evaluated existing and future parking demands and also potential locations and costs for structured parking facilities.
· The Planning Department has updated the 2009 parking study's existing parking demand information with parking counts taken earlier this summer (June). As part of this update, an evaluation of potential locations for structured parking facilities was included along with cost estimates for parking structures at each location.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
· The evaluation of probable construction costs for a downtown parking structure is attached for the City Council's consideration.
