RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• Approval of Resolution for application and acceptance of the grant, if awarded
ITEM SUMMARY:
• The application seeks one hundred percent (100%) funding for entry-level salaries and benefits for six (6) police officers
• There is no local match requirement; however, additional funds will be required to purchase uniforms and needed equipment
• The six (6) police officers will serve in the capacity of Bike Officers for residential and business areas, etc. and to address specific quality of life issues in the city
• The grant is for a period of three (3) years. At the conclusion of three (3) years of grant funding, the City must retain all CHP positions for a minimum of one year
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• The COPS Hiring Program (CHP) is a competitive grant program that provides funding directly to law enforcement agencies to create jobs and increase community policing and crime prevention efforts
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• The grant request is for $417,228, which provides entry-level salaries and benefits for six (6) police officers
• The police department will be requesting the funds needed for uniforms and equipment for the six (6) officers in the FY12 budget in the amount of approximately $117,363
