RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• Approval of Resolution. (this Resolution was prepared by the City’s redistricting consultant, Bickerstaff, Heath, Delgado, Acosta, LLP)
ITEM SUMMARY:
• This Resolution set forth guidelines for the review of redistricting plans submitted by any interested person(s) as the City Council goes through the process and responsibilities of redistricting in accordance with applicable federal and state law.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• The City of McKinney has certain responsibilities in complying with the Voting Rights Act, and other related statutes, as it considers new council member district boundaries. This process necessarily begins after each decennial census and once the appropriate demographic and ethic census data is received from the federal government. Upon passage of the attached Resolution, persons interested in the redistricting plans considered by the City Council will have a process by which to submit alternative plans and comments to plans. The Resolution sets forth certain uniform guidelines for such submittals.
