ITEM SUMMARY:
* The McKinney Community Development Corporation will conduct a public hearing on the project grant application submitted by Heard-Craig to fund $135,300 improvements to the West Garden at the Heard-Craig Center for the Arts.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
* The Heard-Craig Center for the Arts is a downtown landmark and historical center that was built in 1900.
* In 1971, it was formally established as a nonprofit organization to provide "no cost" meeting facilities to more than 20 local educational and fine arts groups.
* The Heard-Craig Center is operated as an event center and art museum for the benefit of tourists, visitors and residents of McKinney with a mission dedicated to education, preservation and enlightenment.
* The Heard-Craig is a Smithsonian Affiliate, a Blue Star Museum (for military families), and a Museum-For-All participant, part of the Children's Museum network.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
* Funds allocated for MCDC discretionary Project Grants for FY23 totaled $2,177,223.
* In FY 2021, MCDC awarded $239,494 to Heard-Craig Center for the Arts for improvements including repairs, paint, lighting, landscaping, security system, and installation of walkways and signage.
