ITEM SUMMARY:
* In Fall of 2021 NCTCOG solicited proposals for an Autonomous Vehicle Project.
* A proposal was developed that will use Autonomous Vehicle (A/V) technology to increase access to healthcare and other services for underserved McKinney residents.
* As currently envisioned, the project will also be deployed to underserved residents of the City of Dallas
* The project application is supported by Children's Health Center, Toyota, Ford, Texas A&M Transportation Institute, SMU, DART, Autonomous Vehicle Alliance, Accessible Mobility Collaborative, Dallas County Health and Human Services and Others.
* The $5M+ project will be funded primarily through a grant provided by the NCTCOG
* No monetary contribution is being requested of the City of McKinney at this time.
* The proposal anticipates that some in-kind staff services would be required to support the project.
* The item was presented to City Council at the February 1, 2022 Work Session.
* The resolution provides conditional support for the project so that staff can work out additional project details with NCTCOG, who is anticipated to lead the effort.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
* Feonix Mobility submitted a City of McKinney proposal to NCTCOG in November of 2021.
* The proposal has been discussed at the NCTCOG Surface Transportation Technical Committee (STTC) and at the March 10, 2022 Regional Transportation Council (RTC) meeting.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
* The only contribution requested from the City of McKinney, at this time, is staff support.
