RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:      
·      Approve Resolution for application and acceptance of the Juvenile Case Manager grant, if awarded
 
ITEM SUMMARY:  
·      Staff requests approval for application and acceptance of a Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) grant to fund a full-time  staff member to assist existing Juvenile Case Manager in performing additional duties imposed by the State of Texas for management of juvenile cases coming through the Municipal Court system.
 
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:  
·      Texas Senate Bill 61 imposes additional duties on Juvenile Case Managers in the oversight and management of juvenile cases coming through the Municipal Court system
·      On November 11, 2011, City Council approved the revised Guidelines for Juvenile Case Managers required by the State of Texas
·      The JJDP grant assists municipalities in implementing these guidelines
 
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:  
·      The grant is on a three-year funding cycle, based on the availability of funding
·      The grant provides up to $80,000 per year
·      The City is requesting $61,768 for the Juvenile Case Manager position
·      No match is required
