· Acceptance of the award
ITEM SUMMARY:
· The Texas Municipal Library Directors Association (TMLDA) has presented the 2014 Achievement of Excellence in Libraries to the City of McKinney.
· This award recognizes service excellence in ten categories of public library services provided in the community. Service categories include:
o Offering programs to underserved populations
o Delivering topical, educational and educational programs for adults and families
o Providing literacy support for all ages (programs and study/tutoring space)
o Conducting summer reading programs
o Enhancing learning activities for children
o Providing training opportunities for staff at all levels
· The City of McKinney has received this award for 14 of the past 14 years.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
· Of the 555 public library systems in the State of Texas, only 39 communities received the 2014 award. The McKinney Public Library demonstrated excellence in all 10 areas required to qualify.
