Summary

MEETING DATE:                     May 17, 2011

DEPARTMENT:                      McKinney Community Development Corporation

CONTACT:                       Cindy Schneible, Executive Director

RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:

The board of directors of the McKinney Community Development Corporation recommends approval of this grant

ITEM SUMMARY:

The proposed facility is located at 2060 Couch Street.  The building is 50,000 square foot, and will house an expanded ReStore, a construction office and indoor building area, and administrative offices

                     ReStore - 36,000 sq. ft.

Construction department - 10,000 sq. ft.

Administrative offices - 4,000 sq. ft.

Administrative costs will be reduced through consolidation of multiple functions under one roof - and owning, rather than leasing space

Expansion of ReStore will help ensure the primary objectives to recycle, reduce and reuse donated items from homebuilders, builders and residents are met and will help NCCHH achieve its goal to become self-sustaining through ReStore sales - allowing 100% of every donation received to be dedicated to home construction.

It is estimated that through ReStore sales of donated goods, 900 tons of solid waste will be diverted from landfill each year.

Employment will be increased from 21 to 28 employees.
