RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:

Approval of Resolution to accept the grant, if awarded, to fund the purchase of a Law Enforcement Virtual Reality Training Simulator for the McKinney Police Department.

ITEM SUMMARY:

The UASI program focus is to support state and local efforts to prevent terrorism and other catastrophic events and to prepare the nation for the threats and hazards that pose the greatest risk to our security.

The Virtual Reality Training Simulator will provide the McKinney Police Department with new training capabilities and expand the current capabilities for scenario-based training. This type of training will provide increased experience with in-depth critical incidents and de-escalation scenarios to better prepare response teams. Having the ability to simulate events based on the growing number of soft targets and large-scale events around the City will ensure the McKinney Police Department can execute effective, coordinated action plans within the region.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The UASI program grant award has been sought annually by the City of McKinney to help prepare for, respond to, and recover from natural, man-made, and technological threats and hazards.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:

If awarded, the grant amount is expected to be $125,000.

There is no match required for this grant.
