ITEM SUMMARY:
· This Ordinance will establish two crosswalks on Bluewood Drive for Baker Elementary School; one at Heatherwood Drive and the other at Youpon Drive.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
· In August 2013, Prosper ISD Staff informed City Staff the school had placed a crossing guard at the intersection of Bluewood Drive and Heatherwood Drive to accommodate the growing subdivision. City Staff agrees with the installation of a crossing guard at this location.
· A review of the Ordinance showed a discrepancy in the designated crosswalk location per the Ordinance compared to the actual crosswalk location and operation in the field.
· In 2007, the crosswalk for Baker Elementary School was set at Basswood Drive on Bluewood Drive. This crosswalk was not installed because a revision was made to the pedestrian traffic circulation on the school site that warranted a change to the crosswalk location. A crosswalk was established at Youpon Drive on Bluewood Drive instead. It appears the Ordinance was not revised to reflect this change.
· This Ordinance will establish a crosswalk on Bluewood Drive at Youpon Drive and another crosswalk on Bluewood Drive at the Heatherwood Drive. Both crosswalks will have a crossing guard.
· The school zones and times for Baker Elementary will remain unchanged.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
· Funds for this item are available in the operating budget of the Public Works Department.
