ITEM SUMMARY: 

                     Fifteen (15) Police Interceptor vehicles are currently on the Fleet replacement schedule.

                     The City has received a quote from Philpott Motors, LTD, via the Houston Galveston Area Council (HGAC), a Texas Cooperative Purchasing organization contract, for the purchase of fifteen (15) Police Interceptors in the amount of $23,456.93 each totaling $352,445.85. 

                     All emergency equipment needed for these vehicles will be recycled from the vehicles being replaced.

                     There will be an additional expense for removing and reinstalling the existing equipment from the old vehicles into the new vehicles.  Estimated cost is $4000 per vehicle for a total estimated cost of $60,000.  These services will be rendered in FY 2012 therefore, funding will come from the FY 2012 budget. 

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

                     Ford Motor Company has announced plans to discontinue the Crown Victoria Police Interceptor (CVPI) for model year 2012.  This Interceptor has proven to be one of the most widely used automobiles in law enforcement departments.  Philpott Motors has fifteen (15) new 2011 vehicles readily available and can deliver within fourteen (14) days after receipt of order.  Delivery, if approved, must be before October 1, 2011.

 

FINANCIAL SUMMARY: 

                     Funding for the Interceptors will come from currently budgeted funds in FY 2011 not to exceed $352,446.

                     Funding for the equipment removal/installation will come from FY 2012 budgeted funds not to exceed $60,000.
