RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
· Approval of the ordinance.
ITEM SUMMARY:
· This ordinance establishes a speed limit on Coit Road between Westridge Boulevard and the city limits, located approximately 2600 feet south of Westridge Boulevard.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
· Construction of the east two lanes of Coit Road south of Westridge Boulevard has been completed; therefore, a speed limit needs to be established along this section.
· When developing a recommendation for a speed limit, factors to be considered include:
o The design speed
o The 85th percentile speed
o The existing speed limit on adjacent sections of the same roadway
· A design speed of 45 mph was used for this section of Coit Road.
· A speed study conducted in January shows the 85th percentile speed is 45 mph for northbound traffic and 41 mph for southbound traffic.
· It is recommended that a speed limit of 40 mph be established for this section of roadway.
