· Approval of the ordinance.
ITEM SUMMARY:
· This ordinance establishes a speed limit of 40 mph on Wilmeth Road between Ridgeknoll Avenue and the McKinney city limits, located 1250 feet west of Ridgeknoll Avenue.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
· Construction of the north two lanes of Wilmeth Road has been completed between Ridgeknoll Avenue and the city limits; therefore, a speed limit needs to be established along this section.
· When developing a recommendation for a speed limit, factors to be considered include:
o The design speed
o The 85th percentile speed
o The existing speed limit on adjacent sections of the same roadway
· A design speed of 45 mph was used for this section of Wilmeth Road.
· A speed study conducted in January shows the 85th percentile for eastbound traffic is 43 mph and 47 mph for westbound traffic.
· The existing speed limit on Wilmeth Road east of this location is 40 mph.
· Establishing the speed limit at 40 mph on this section of Wilmeth Road will provide a consistent speed limit along the entire length of this roadway.
· This ordinance also corrects a discrepancy related to the name of Wilmeth Road found in this section of the Code of Ordinances.
