RECOMMENDED PROS BOARD ACTION:
• Recommend to the City Council a Name(s), tagline and logo for the 80,000 square foot Aquatic and Fitness Center
ITEM SUMMARY:
• Naming of the facility is typically coordinated with the project construction in order to market and brand the facility to the community.
• Construction of the facility located at 3003 Alma Dr. is projected to be completed late December 2016, with projected opening January 2017.
• A copy of the proposed name, logo and tagline was discussed during the June 9, 2016 PROS Board meeting.
• The item was not properly described on the agenda, and therefore no action was allowed.
• City staff requests the PROS Board take action on this item at the next regular PROS Board meeting.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• This recommendation was presented to the PROS Board in June and all but one member supported the name, tagline and logo. (See attached name rationale.)
• The item was approved by consensus of the PROS Board.
• Wording of the agenda item did not allow formal action to be taken by the PROS Board.
• This item has been placed on the agenda for PROS Board action, thus a vote of the Board is being requested.
• The MCDC considered this item and unanimously supported it.
• Approval by the City Council will be requested on July 19, 2016.
• Policy allows the PROS Board to make a recommendation to the City Council regarding naming of recreation facilities.
