· Approval of the Ordinance.
ITEM SUMMARY:
· This Ordinance will accomplish the following:
o Establish a crosswalk and extend the school zone on Silverado Trail for Scoggins Middle School.
o Extend the school zone on Eden Drive for Mooneyham Elementary School.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Scoggins Middle School
· Silverado Trail, east of Alma Road was completed in August to accommodate the opening of Comstock Elementary School.
· Prior to opening Comstock Elementary, the students residing in the Harvest Bend Addition attended Elliott Elementary School. These students have been moved to Comstock Elementary; therefore, the crosswalk on Silverado at Ironstone Lane was moved to a point in front of Comstock Elementary School to provide the most direct route.
· A request has been submitted by parents of Scoggins Middle School students to create a crosswalk at Ironstone and Silverado for their use.
· A study has been completed to determine the number of middle school students (attending Scoggins Middle School) that cross Silverado Trail to determine if a crosswalk is warranted.
· According to the traffic study conducted in September, the intersection of Blue Moon Drive and Silverado Trail meets the criteria for establishing a crosswalk (with a crossing guard) for Scoggins Middle School.
· The school zone along Silverado Trail that is in place for Comstock Elementary will be extended so the proposed Scoggins Middle School crosswalk will be located within a reduced speed zone.
