RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• Approval of Resolution ratifying the authorization for the City Manager to accept, if awarded, the FY23 VOCA Grant.
ITEM SUMMARY:
• Grant funds will be used to pay the existing Victim Advocate position in the Police Department for the next year. The Victim Advocate provides social service referrals and advocacy in order to mitigate the effects of victimization, including but not limited to psychological, physical, emotional and financial effects.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• The grant is funded through the Department of Justice and administered through the State of Texas, Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division.
• Without a Victim Advocate, Detectives would have to provide victim-support service duties in addition to their investigative responsibilities.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• The total provided by the grant over the next year, October 1, 2022 - September 30, 2023, will be $67,027.98. No city match is required for FY 23.
