RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
* Approval of Resolution

ITEM SUMMARY:
* Replacement of existing "End of Life (EOL)" Public Safety Data Center servers with new Dell blade servers, increasing speed and functionality.
* Replacement of existing "End of Life (EOL)" Public Safety Data Center storage with new EMC Storage, increasing speed and storage capacity.
* Blade hardware and installation services are available for purchase from EST Group of Arlington, Texas through the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR), Contract No. DIR-SDD-1951 and DIR-SDD-2411.
* Storage hardware is available for purchase from Unique Digital of Houston, Texas through DIR Contract No. DIR-SDD-1418.
* Chapter 791 of the Texas Government Code, Interlocal Cooperation Contracts, authorizes cities to make purchases utilizing cooperative contracts such as the ones available through the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR).


BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
* The equipment in the City of McKinney Data Center, located within the Public Safety Building, is now approaching eight years old. Our standard refresh cycle, established in 2010, is 5 years on network equipment and 3 years on workstation and laptops. This refresh with both allow for all enterprise class systems to be on the refresh cycle and deliver increased capacity, speed, and functionality.
* The equipment, in this data center, consists of old servers, network storage, and network switches. The primary function of this equipment is to process, store, and/or transmit data; that is critical to the day to day operations of the Public Safety and City operations.
