RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
· Approval of Resolution.

ITEM SUMMARY:
· This Resolution authorizes a contract amendment with Kennedy Consulting, Ltd. (KCI) to provide additional engineering services related to the Alma Road and Silverado Trail project, for a revised fee not to exceed $275,000.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The original proposal from KCI for the design of Alma Road and Silverado Trail assumed that no drainage analysis would be necessary, as the storm sewer system design and hydraulic data was provided with development plans along the Alma corridor.
During preliminary design and plan preparation KCI has identified multiple project constraints that require modifications to the typical roadway design and the original storm sewer design provided in the development plans. These constraints include:
A 20” high pressure gas main in a 50’ private easement
Existing drainage patterns that differ from what was shown in the development plans
The design modifications necessary to accommodate these constraints include relocating proposed inlets, which will require new drainage area boundaries to be identified and design flows to be calculated.
An aggressive schedule is necessary for the roadway construction to be completed prior to the opening of Comstock Elementary School in August 2012.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
The original not to exceed amount for the design contract with KCI is $250,000.
This Resolution authorizes a revised contract with KCI for an amount not to exceed $275,000.
