RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:

                     Approve the Resolution

 

ITEM SUMMARY:

                     City Council approved the 112 S. Kentucky location at the February 2, 2016 public hearing for the location of the mural.

                     The professional services contract with Misty Oliver-Foster is attached.

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

                     The Artist and Design for the Mural was selected by a Public Art Selection Subcommittee. A Call to Artists for North Texas Arts was issued and Misty Oliver

-Foster’s design was chosen from the eight (8) submissions and approved by the Arts Commission on March 25, 2014.

 

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:

                     The estimated total cost of the 2016 Public Art Mural is $21,402.

o                     $1,500 previously approved for artists’ design concepts

o                     $13,500 mural contract with Misty Oliver-Foster

o                     $6,402 for wall repair

                     $28,013 is in the City-funded portion of the Public Art Fund.

o                     $6,750 is available with private funding match.

o                     $6,402 is available without matching funds for the wall repair approved by City Council on February 2, 2016.

                     $6,750 is available in the privately-funded portion of the Public Art Fund.

 

BOARD OR COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION:

                     The Arts Commission recommended awarding the contract for the painting of the mural to Misty Oliver-Foster at the March 25, 2014 Special Arts Commission Meeting.
