RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• Approval of Resolution for application and acceptance of the 3rd year of the grant, if awarded.
ITEM SUMMARY:
• The State of Texas awards 421 State Criminal Justice Planning Funds to assist cities in developing projects designed to reduce crime and improve the criminal and juvenile justice systems.
• Staff requests approval for application and acceptance of the 3rd year of a three year grant to fund a Child Abuse Investigator position, based on availability of funding.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• On April 7, 2009, Agenda Item 09-198, City Council approved the application for and acceptance of the 421 State Criminal Justice Planning Fund grant to fund the Child Abuse Investigator position.
• The grant is on a three year funding cycle, with decreased funding in years two and three.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• Year three of the grant will pay 60% of the first year’s funding - $47,502.
• The salary and benefits for the position are $84,770
