RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
·      Approve recommended amendment to Code of Ordinances
ITEM SUMMARY:
·      The amendment to the ordinance revises the building standards for gas piping and shutoff systems in new construction.  More specifically, the amendment requires gas piping systems to be bonded to an effective ground-fault current path in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA) National Fuel Gas Code (NFPA 54).
 
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
·      The City Council possesses, pursuant to section 214.212(c) of the Texas Local Government Code, the authority to adopt local amendments to the International Residential Code.
·      The amendments are proposed to reduce the likelihood of electrical arcing leading to structure fires during incidents of lightning strikes.
