RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:      
·      Approval of Resolution for application and acceptance of grant and amendment of budget, if funded
 
ITEM SUMMARY:  
·      The primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighter's Grant (AFG) is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments
·      Staff requests approval to apply for, accept grant and amend budget, if awarded, up to $800,000 in AFG funding to purchase cardiac monitors/defibrillators and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) to replace equipment that does not meet current NFPA standards
 
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:  
·      The City of McKinney has thirty-nine (39) SCBA packs and ninety-one (91) cylinders that are not compliant with current NFPA standards
·      Upgrading to cardiac monitors/defibrillators that have the ability to monitor patient core temperatures ensures better survival rates and brain function of cardiac arrest patients being treated with induced hypothermia
·      The City has one year to purchase the equipment
 
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:  
·      The grant request of up to $800,000 requires up to a 20% or $160,000 match
