RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION: Approve Resolution.
ITEM SUMMARY:
• Creation of an Urban Transit District within the McKinney UZA will allow the City of McKinney to access Texas Department of Transportation funding for providing limited transit services in the City of McKinney.
• The Resolution will also remove a similar designation of an Urban Transit District previously held by the Texoma Area Paratransit System (TAPS).
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• During the last quarter of the 2015 calendar year, TAPS began reducing transit operations in the City of McKinney.
• The reduction and cancellation of services were due to financial challenges within the TAPS organization.
• Due to these service issues, City Council has directed staff to look at alternative options for transportation services within the City of McKinney.
