RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:      
·      Approval of the Resolution.
 
ITEM SUMMARY:  
·      This Resolution establishes the summer hours for the school zones at the following schools:
o      Boyd High School
o      Cockrill Middle School
o      Malvern Elementary School
o      Lawson Early Childhood Center
·      The summer session for Boyd High School will begin June 12, 2012 and end August 2, 2012.  School will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
·      The summer session of Cockrill Middle School will begin June 11, 2012 and end July 26, 2012. School will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
·      The summer session of Malvern Elementary School will begin June 11, 2012 and end July 26, 2012. School will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
·      The summer session of Lawson Early Childhood Center will begin June 11, 2012 and end July 26, 2012. School will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Lawson Early Childhood Center utilizes the Slaughter Elementary School Zone.
·      The reduced speed limit in the school zones will be effective beginning 45 minutes before the beginning of school for the day and end 15 minute after the beginning of school.
·      The reduced speed limit in the school zone will be effective beginning 15 minutes before the dismissal of school for the day and end 45 minutes after the dismissal of school.  
 
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:  
·      In 2003, the City Council adopted an Ordinance that provides for the enforcement of the reduced speed zones for summer school.
·      The Ordinance requires the City Council to approve a resolution establishing the summer schools and effective periods for the school zones each year.
