RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:                     

                     Discuss the City Council allowing the naming of the All-Abilities Playground based on City Policy and corporate donations received by the Rotary Clubs of McKinney.

 

ITEM SUMMARY: 

                     The City is currently working with the Rotary Clubs of McKinney on the design of Bonnie Wenk Phase 2.

                     Bonnie Wenk Phase 2 includes an All-Abilities Playground.

                     The Rotary Clubs are currently soliciting funds as needed for construction of the All-Abilities Playground as part of the park project.

                     Representatives from the Rotary Club requested the ability to offer naming rights for the playground to potential sponsors / donors.

                     Staff requested the PROS Board consider this item at their April 14, 2016 regular meeting.

                     A copy of the Municipal Facility Naming Policy, 2014-01-008(R), was provided to the Board and is attached herein.

                     A copy of the duties of the PROS Board’s role in naming parks was also provided to the Board and is attached herein. 

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

                     The PROS Board agreed with the naming rights contingent on satisfaction of the City Council naming policy.

 

FINANCIAL SUMMARY: 

                     N/A

 

BOARD OR COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION:

                     The PROS Board was in support of this item as long as the City Council policy was adhered to re: the level of funding at greater than 50% of the construction cost.

                     The PROS Board and City Council would vote to approve the name recommended by the Rotary Club prior to naming the amenity.
