RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
* Acceptance of the Award

ITEM SUMMARY:
* The National Community Development Association (NCDA) bestowed the City of McKinney with the 2016 John A. Sasso Award in recognition of its Community Development Block Grant program during National Community Development Week.
* On June 24, 2016, the National Community Development Association (NCDA) recognized the City of McKinney and other municipality winners of the award at the 47th NCDA Annual Conference in Milwaukee, WI. The Sasso Award was created as a means of recognizing community efforts to promote and celebrate the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program during National Community Development Week, which was celebrated this year in McKinney on March 28 - April 5, 2016.
* McKinney featured community partnerships and activities on the impact of Housing through the efforts of the McKinney Housing Rehabilitation Program; a Wall-Raising Ceremony with the Mayor and community partners under Habitat for Humanity of North Collin County; the collaborative impact and power of Public-Private Partnerships engaged for re-development of Newsome Homes (An affordable housing investment for Seniors); P.R.I.D.E. neighborhood revitalization activities through 3E McKinney, Volunteer McKinney, Go and Be, and other community partners; and a proclamation on the overall impact of CDBG in the community.
* This is the second award for the City of McKinney. Other cities also receiving the 2016 honor included Dallas, TX; Miami, FL; Jacksonville, FL; Columbus, GA; St. Louis, MO; Tulsa, OK; Columbia, SC; and Burlington, VT.
