  • ITEM SUMMARY:
  • The City of McKinney was honored by the Texas Municipal League (TML) with the Excellence Award in Management Innovation, for the city’s OpenGov financial transparency tool.
  • The Excellence Award was presented at the TML annual conference on Oct. 5 in Austin.
  • The Texas Municipal League Excellence Awards recognize and encourage the achievements of Texas cities in meeting the challenges of municipal government. Innovative problem-solving, excellence in management, increasing citizen participation and reaching toward higher service levels are all daily occurrences in Texas cities and TML believes they deserve recognition. The awards program seeks out the best of these programs to honor.

  • BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
  • The OpenGov tool, available online, provides a variety of financial reports about the City of McKinney such as a payroll register, check register, budget-to-actual monthly comparison, debt service tool, and a sales tax by industry analysis. These reports are updated frequently, and available in a graphical format that can be filtered and downloaded at the discretion of the end-user.
  • Since the launch of the interactive online tool last year, users have been able to digitally access the city’s financial records, annual budget compared to actual revenues and expenses, and more than $1.1 billion of checks issued across five fiscal years.
