RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:

Approval of Resolution for application for and acceptance of grant, if awarded.

ITEM SUMMARY:

The primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighter’s Grant (AFG) is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments.

Staff requests approval to apply for and accept grant, if awarded, for up to $2,000,000 in AFG funding to renovate the existing Public Safety Building to include an approximately 1,450 square foot training room.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The City of McKinney currently does not have a room large enough to host the size of classes needed.

The proposed training room addition would be a multi-purpose room with seating for up to 120 people.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:

The total project cost is up to $2,000,000 which would require up to a 10% match of $181,818.18 and a grant amount of $1,818,181.82

Grant amount is calculated $2,000,000/1.10 = $1,818,181.82.  The project remainder is the City’s match.

If awarded, the project would be programmed in the 2018 - 2022 Capital Improvement Program (CIP), with funding source to be determined.

If awarded, sources for the match and any additional project costs will be determined and appropriations will be requested in the FY18 budget process.
