RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:

                     Approval of the Ordinance.

ITEM SUMMARY:

This Ordinance will restrict the eastbound U-Turn movements at an existing median opening located approximately 550 feet east of Lake Forest Drive along US 380.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

This median opening, east of Lake Forest Drive, does not provide a separate left turn lane in the eastbound direction of US 380.

Businesses on the northeast corner of Lake Forest Drive at US 380 have been constructed creating the desire for this U-Turn movement at this median opening.

A left turn lane was constructed in the westbound direction of US 380 at this median opening in order to provide access to the retail development on the south side.

In order to maintain the traffic flow along this congested corridor of US 380, it is proposed to restrict the U-Turn movements at the median opening located 550 feet east of Lake Forest Drive in the eastbound direction along US 380.

Although City Council delegated to the Traffic Engineer full and complete control over all traffic regulations within McKinney, the Texas Department of Transportation requested an Ordinance to restrict the U-Turn movements at a median opening along a State roadway not regulated by a traffic signal.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:

Funds for the installation of the signs are available in the operating budget of the Engineering Department.
