RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
* Approval of this Ordinance.
ITEM SUMMARY:
* This Ordinance will establish a speed limit on Wilmeth Road of 40 mph from a point 140 feet west of Ridgeway Drive westward to the new city limits at approximately 1400 feet west of Ridgeway Drive.
* This Ordinance will also re-establish a speed limit on Wilmeth Road of 40 mph from Lake Forest Drive to Ridgeknoll Avenue.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
* The new lanes of Wilmeth Road have been constructed adjacent to the Wilmeth Ridge and Auburn Hills subdivisions. These lanes of Wilmeth Road have been opened to traffic and thus a speed limit needs to be established on this extension of Wilmeth Road.
* When developing a recommendation for a speed limit, the following factors should be considered:
? The design speed of the roadway.
? The measured 85th percentile speed.
? The established speed limit on adjacent section of the same roadway.
? The adjacent land uses along the roadway.
* A design speed of 45 mph was used for construction of this arterial, along with the rest of the corridor.
* The area is zoned residential with new residential developments along this new section of Wilmeth Road with construction underway.
* The established speed limit along Wilmeth Road from a point 140 feet west of Ridgeway Drive to Ridgeknoll Avenue is 40 mph.
* Due to the above factors, a proposed speed limit of 40 mph is recommended on Wilmeth Road from a point 140 feet west of Ridgeway Drive to the new city limits approximately 1400 feet west of Ridgeway Drive.
