Consider/Discuss/Act on Direction of Public Transit in the McKinney Urbanized Area

Summary

MEETING DATE:     February 28, 2017

DEPARTMENT:                      Administration

CONTACT:                       Chandler Merritt, Strategic Services Director

ITEM SUMMARY:

McKinney Urban Transit District (MUTD) will discuss next steps on public transit in the McKinney Urbanized Area

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Resolution authorizing the formation of the MUTD was passed by the McKinney City Council on June 7, 2016

Under Chapter 458 of the Texas Transportation Code and Chapter 791 of the Texas Government Code, Urban Transit Districts may administer federal and state public transportation funds, with the formation of an Urban Transit District

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:

For FY 17, the City of McKinney will receive approximately $312,000 from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for the provision of transit services to the McKinney Urban Transit District

Members of the MUTD may also contribute funds for the provision of transit services.

TxDOT and MUTD member funds may be used as match to drawdown an equal amount of Federal Transit Administration (FTA) funds, up to the amount of the total allocation for the McKinney Urbanized Area

The cost of administration for transit funding for FY17 will be based on levels and types of transit to be provided.
