ITEM SUMMARY:

* The Fire Department respectfully requests City Council dedicate City owned, 3.654, acres of land located immediately north of the Collin College Public Safety Training Facility, south of Bloomdale Road, and east of Redbud Blvd. as a site for a future McKinney Fire Department fire station.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

* As the City continues to grow, so does the need to maintain adequate fire and EMS coverage. The Fire Department, working with a cross-functional team of City staff including the City Manager's Office, Development Services, Finance, and the Fire Department, is proactively identifying fire station locations to ensure future site availability. This cross-functional team is responsibly seeking ways to minimize financial impact to the City, considering City-owned property where it makes sense.

* One of the Council Goals is to provide for a Safe and Secure Community. A comprehensive objective of this goal is to pursue and maintain the highest (best) Insurance Service Office (ISO) fire protection classification. Sufficient number of fire stations in appropriate locations are a critical component to maintaining the best public protection classification from ISO.

* The City currently owns this property. There is no funding required with this request and the construction/staffing of this station is not included in the recent voter approved 10-year CIP. The cross-functional team of the City Manager's Office, Development Services, Finance, and the...
