ITEM SUMMARY:
* Dr. Muriel Marshall, D.O. currently serves as the City of McKinney's appointed Local Health Authority. The City of McKinney would like to reappoint Dr. Marshall for another term. The City would also like to newly appoint Dr. Arifa Nishat, M.D. as Local Health Authority to provide redundancy and coverage for this position.

* Per the Department of State Health Services, a health authority serves for a term of two years.

* Dr. Muriel Marshall and Dr. Arifa Nishat both serve as the Health Authority for Collin County.

* Dr. Muriel Marshall, D.O. is board certified in Public Health and Preventive Medicine and Family Practice.

* Dr. Arifa Nishat, M.D. is board certified in Family medicine.

* The term of the appointments will be for two years ending June 17, 2019.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Appointment
* In accordance with Texas Health and Safety Code, Chapter 121.021, a Local Health Authority is a physician appointed to administer state and local laws relating to public health within the appointing body's jurisdiction.

Duties
* Under Section 121.024, a health authority is a state officer when performing duties prescribed by state law. A health authority shall perform each duty that is (1) necessary to implement and enforce a law to protect the public health; or (2) prescribed by the board.
