RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
* Approval of Resolution.

ITEM SUMMARY:
* This Resolution supports the proposed construction of Custer Road (FM 2478) from US 380 to FM 1461 by the Texas Department of Transportation.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
* The City of McKinney and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) have been collaborating on the preliminary engineering and environmental documentation for Custer Road (FM 2478) from US 380 to FM 1461.
* City Council previously authorized a consulting contract for preliminary engineering and the preparation of environmental documentation for the construction of Custer Road (FM 2478). City staff has been managing this work under TxDOT guidelines.
* TxDOT is required to hold a public hearing to present the anticipated impacts of the project and to receive comments from the public. This public hearing is scheduled for May 30, 2017.
* The subject resolution will be the City of McKinney official statement of support for the construction of Custer Road (FM 2478) and will be submitted to TxDOT at the public hearing for inclusion in the final environmental documentation.
* City Council has previously identified the improvement of Custer Road (FM 2478) as a priority transportation project.
* The proposed construction will upgrade Custer Road (FM 2478) from a primarily two lane asphalt roadway without shoulders and limited turn lanes into a four lane (future six lane) divided concrete roadway that will support current and future development along this corridor.
