RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• Approval of this Ordinance.
ITEM SUMMARY:
• This Ordinance will modify the effective reduced speed zone times at Lindsey Elementary School to reflect the changes proposed to the Allen ISD schedules.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• HB 2610 changed the minimum required 180 days of school instruction to a minimum required 75,600 minutes of instruction.
• Allen ISD has decided to respond for the 2017-2018 school year by extending the school day at their elementary schools by 10 minutes. This change will affect the reduced speed school zone times at Lindsey Elementary School in the Village Park neighborhood.
• The effective times for the reduced speed school zones will be changed to reflect the new Allen ISD elementary school schedule. The Allen ISD elementary schools will now begin at 7:50 am and be dismissed at 3:00 pm.
• The effective times for the reduced speed school zones are established as follows:
o Morning school zones begin 45 minutes before the beginning of school for the day and end 15 minutes after arrival time.
o Afternoon school zones begin 15 minutes before the end of school for the day and end 45 minutes after dismissal time.
• McKinney ISD chose not to change the current school day times. Prosper ISD and Frisco ISD both extended the school day at their campuses in 2016 with the reduced speed school zones changed to the new school schedules through previous Ordinance No. 2016-06-049.
