ITEM SUMMARY:

This Ordinance creates two loading zone spaces on the east side of Tennessee Street immediately north of Davis Street.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

In April 2017, a petition was received signed by Downtown property owners and merchants along Tennessee Street requesting loading zone spaces to be designated in front of Cadence Cycling located at 129 North Tennessee Street.

Engineering Staff and Main Street Staff worked with the Downtown property owners and merchants to review possible locations and to determine the number of proposed loading zone spaces desired along this section of Tennessee Street.

The consensus from the Downtown property owners and merchants was for two loading zone spaces to be located on the east side of Tennessee Street in the first two parking spaces north of Davis Street.

In 2008, City Council delegated to the Traffic Engineer the authority to modify parking regulations within McKinney; however, the Traffic Engineer has continued to present to City Council modifications to any parking restrictions in the downtown area due to the uniqueness of the area.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:

The signage and markings to establish the loading zone space is available in the operating budget of the Engineering Department.
