RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:

                     Approval of Resolution

 

ITEM SUMMARY:

                     This Resolution authorizes a contract with Garver, LLC to provide consulting engineering services for the design of the Arterial Capacity Improvements Project (ST1618) for an amount not to exceed $300,000.

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

                     The intersections of US 380 and Hardin Boulevard, Westridge Boulevard and Custer Road, and Virginia Parkway and Ridge Road are in need of capacity improvements.

                     At US 380 and Hardin Boulevard, right turn lanes will be added to all approaches along with dual northbound and southbound left turn lanes.

                     At Westridge Boulevard and Custer Road, an eastbound right turn lane will be added.

                     At Virginia Parkway and Ridge Road, an additional northbound left turn lane will be added while extending the existing left turn lane along with adding an eastbound right turn lane.

                     These improvements will also necessitate improvements to and modification of the existing traffic signals at the three intersections.

                     Garver, LLC submitted a response to RFQ 15-38 for Roadway Design.  They were one of ten firms shortlisted by City Council on October 20, 2015.

                     Garver, LLC submitted a proposal for this project in the amount of $269,215.

                     The preliminary opinion of probable construction cost is $2,105,500.

                     The fee for basic services is $188,841 (9.0% of the construction cost) and the fee for special services is $80,374 (3.8% of the construction cost).

 

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:

                     This Resolution authorizes a design contract and any necessary supplemental agreements with Garver, LLC for an amount not to exceed $300,000.

                     With the approval of this item, $1,700,000 will remain in project ST1618.
