RECOMMENDED PROS BOARD ACTION:

Recommend to the City Council a name(s) for an 11-acre park site located next to Janice Stahly Scott Elementary School.

ITEM SUMMARY:

Naming of a Park is typically coordinated with the project construction completion.

Design of this 11 acre park site on Millbend Drive adjacent to Scott Elementary School is currently underway.

A copy of the duties of the PROS Board’s role in naming parks is also attached.

Staff would like the Board to recommend a name(s) for this park site that will be submitted to City Council for consideration.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The PROS Board recently named a 16-acre park site, Dr. Mack Hill Park at 1849 Regan Drive.

During the naming process for Dr. Mack Hill Park a second name, George Webb Park was also considered.

The PROS Board requested that the name George Webb Park be brought back for consideration for a future park name.

George Webb has lived and operated a business in the City of McKinney since 1951. As a member of the McKinney Jaycees, he led efforts to open the first recreation center in McKinney. He is a former Chairman of the McKinney Parks, Recreation and Open Space Advisory Board.

George Webb has twice been awarded the McKinney Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 1954 and 2005. He was also awarded the McKinney Community Development Corporation’s Quality of Life Award in 2007.
