ITEM SUMMARY:

This Resolution supports a submittal for the Regional Traffic Signal Retiming Program (RTSRP) and Minor Improvement Program Call for Projects and accepts funding, if awarded, from the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG).

The proposed project submittal for the Regional Traffic Signal Retiming Program Call for Projects for McKinney is the retiming of the traffic signals along the Eldorado Parkway corridor.

The proposed project submittal for the Minor Improvements Program Call for Projects for McKinney is the replacement of traffic signal controllers at all of the City’s 82 traffic signals.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The RTSRP is a regional program that is implemented by NCTCOG in partnership with local agencies.

The goal of the RTSRP is to maximize the capacity of the existing roadway system by improving traffic operations through signal retiming along selected corridors.

The Minor Improvement Program is a regional program that is implemented by NCTCOG in partnership with local agencies that improves the capacity of the existing roadway system by implementing low-cost operational improvements, thereby enhancing mobility and improving air quality.

The deadline for submitting proposals for the Regional Traffic Signal Retiming Program (RTSRP) and Minor Improvement Program Call for Projects is October 13, 2017.

The maximum funding for each project is $50,000.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:

The local match requirement of 20% of the total cost for the Regional Traffic Signal Retiming Program (RTSRP) and Minor Improvement Program will come from Fund 21 - Street Construction.

The City currently has $500,000 in funding for the City-wide traffic signal controllers replacement project in TR4235.  This will serve as an overmatch for the grant.
