RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• Approval of Ordinance Amendment
ITEM SUMMARY:
• This item is to consider an amendment to the Sign Ordinance that would allow On-Premise Detached Monument Signage to be a maximum of 8 feet.
• This item is also to consider an amendment to the Sign Ordinance that would allow Changeable Electronic Variable Message LED Signs to be a maximum of 60 square feet.
• Both amendments would allow Monument Signage to be proportional to the size roadway they are on. Smaller roadways would still have a maximum height of 6 feet for Monument Signs.
• The proposed amendments would also bring consistency with neighboring cities.
• Staff supports the approval of both amendments.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• The current City of McKinney Sign Ordinance requires a maximum height of 6 feet for monument signs on City Right-of-Ways 250 feet in width or below.
• The current City of McKinney Sign Ordinance requires a maximum size of 20 square feet for all Electronic Variable Message LED Signs.
