RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
* Approval of the Ordinance.
ITEM SUMMARY:
* This Ordinance will establish a reduced speed school zone and crosswalk on McKinney Ranch Parkway for Elliot Elementary School.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
* A sidewalk is being constructed through the Transportation Alternative Program (TAP) along the north side of Silverado Trail from McKinney Ranch Parkway to Brookstone Drive creating a walking path for the student pedestrians walking to Elliot Elementary from the multi-family homes near this area.
* The sidewalk along Silverado Trail is anticipated to be completed near the end of March 2018.
* Per the request of the Principal of Elliot Elementary School, a traffic study was conducted that determined the need for a crossing guard on McKinney Ranch Parkway at Silverado Trail for the student pedestrians crossing at the intersection after the completion of the sidewalk construction.
* The location of the proposed reduced speed school zone along McKinney Ranch Parkway for Elliot Elementary School is shown in the attached exhibit.
* The crosswalk shown on the attached exhibit is the location where the adult crossing guards have been warranted through our crossing guard criteria. However, crosswalks will be established on both McKinney Ranch Parkway and Silverado Trail for pedestrians crossing at the intersection.
* The school zone time periods will be consistent with the Frisco ISD school schedule.
