RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:                     

                     Approve Resolution

 

ITEM SUMMARY: 

                     The attached Resolution authorizes the City Manager to apply for the Traffic Signal Data Sharing grant and the WAZE Data Sharing grant through the North Central Texas Council of Governments.

 

                     The funds will be used to develop applications and procure third-party software to support real-time data sharing from traffic signals to connected vehicles and infrastructure and to develop and implement applications to support integration of WAZE traffic data into City operations.

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

                     Staff presented an update on transportation data sharing and the WAZE Connected Citizens Program at the City Council Work Session on February 19, 2018.

 

                     City Council approved a Resolution allowing the City Manager to enter into a memorandum of understanding for regional intelligent transportation systems with NCTCOG on February 20, 2018.

 

                     City Council approved a Resolution allowing the City Manager to enter into an agreement with Google, Inc. to join the WAZE Connected Citizens Program.

 

FINANCIAL SUMMARY: 

                     The total amount of the grant request is $50,000.  The traffic signal data sharing grant is for $25,000 and the WAZE Data Sharing grant is for $25,000.

                     There is no City match requirement. No general funds will be used.

                     If awarded, this will be included in the FY 19 proposed grants budget.
