RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• Approve Resolution
ITEM SUMMARY:
• The attached Resolution authorizes the City Manager to apply for the Traffic Signal Data Sharing grant and the WAZE Data Sharing grant through the North Central Texas Council of Governments.
• The funds will be used to develop applications and procure third-party software to support real-time data sharing from traffic signals to connected vehicles and infrastructure and to develop and implement applications to support integration of WAZE traffic data into City operations.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• Staff presented an update on transportation data sharing and the WAZE Connected Citizens Program at the City Council Work Session on February 19, 2018.
• City Council approved a Resolution allowing the City Manager to enter into a memorandum of understanding for regional intelligent transportation systems with NCTCOG on February 20, 2018.
• City Council approved a Resolution allowing the City Manager to enter into an agreement with Google, Inc. to join the WAZE Connected Citizens Program.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• The total amount of the grant request is $50,000. The traffic signal data sharing grant is for $25,000 and the WAZE Data Sharing grant is for $25,000.
• There is no City match requirement. No general funds will be used.
• If awarded, this will be included in the FY 19 proposed grants budget.
