RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:                     

                     Staff recommends approval of this resolution.

 

ITEM SUMMARY: 

                     The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) has submitted an application to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for the construction of a water resources recovery facility (WWRF) that will serve the growing wastewater treatment needs of the region for the future.

                     In conjunction with the resolution of support for the NTMWD’s application to TCEQ, the City has the opportunity to enter into a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding with the NTMWD concerning a variety of items related to the proposed project. A copy of the proposed Memorandum of Understanding is attached.

                     The NTMWD will host an open house for adjacent land owners in June.

                     Facility is anticipated to be online in 2023.

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

                     The proposed WWRF has been in the planning stages for two years to determine needs and to protect Lake Lavon.

                     The land necessary for the proposed facility has been acquired by the NTMWD from the Town of New Hope.

                     A location map of the proposed facility is attached.

                     The NTMWD has provided a FAQ document pertaining to the proposed facility that is attached.
