ITEM SUMMARY:

The City Manager’s Office was recently approached by faculty and students from McKinney ISD’s Boyd High School regarding the City of McKinney’s willingness to allow the design and installation of a living roof at the Hall Memorial Library in Historic Downtown McKinney.

The Boyd High School faculty and students have indicated that they have been working on this living roof project for approximately four years and are excited to partner with the City to see it built. Originally, this project was to be built at Boyd High School but construction in the originally planned location is no longer an option. They have also indicated that they have received enough donations to ensure the project can be built with no additional funds necessary. They have requested the ability to present the project to the City Council in an attempt to request support for the project.

Staff is requesting that the City Council receive the presentation from the Boyd High School faculty and students then provide direction to City Staff regarding whether or not to move forward with the project.
