ITEM SUMMARY:
* This Ordinance will establish a reduced speed school zone and crosswalk on Collin McKinney Parkway for Lindsey Elementary School.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
* Allen ISD will be removing the bus transportation to the Lindsey Elementary School in the upcoming school year for the apartment complexes located on the south side of Collin McKinney Parkway.
* Due to the number of students this decision may impact, City Staff worked with the Transportation Director of Allen ISD to conduct a traffic study that determined the need for a crossing guard on Collin McKinney Parkway at Village Park Drive for the student pedestrians that would be crossing at this intersection.
* The location of the proposed reduced speed school zone along Collin McKinney Parkway for Lindsey Elementary School is shown in the attached exhibit.
* The crosswalk shown on the attached exhibit is the location where the adult crossing guards have been warranted through our crossing guard criteria. However, crosswalks will be established on both Collin McKinney Parkway and Village Park Drive pedestrians crossing at the intersection.
* The school zone time periods will be consistent with the Allen ISD school schedule.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
* Funds to install the school assemblies, related signage, and crossing guards are available in the operating budget of the Engineering Department.
