ITEM SUMMARY:

Heritage Guild of Collin County has requested a grant in the amount of $75,000 for new iron fencing encircling the entire two blocks of Chestnut Square which would allow for both good visibility and security.

In addition to the fencing, the request includes funding for monument signage that could be “gateway” pieces, tower features or replacement of what exists - depending upon city approval based upon ordinances in place.

The proposed fencing and signage would be designed to ensure accordance with historic residential neighborhood guidelines and historic properties.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The Heritage Guild was organized in 1973 and is home to Chestnut Square Historic Village.

The mission of Chestnut Square is to celebrate community, preserve history, and inspire the future.

The Heritage Guild hosts a variety of programming and events throughout the year and hosts more than 50,000 visitors annually.

The area surrounding Chestnut Square has been under construction for almost two years (Davis at the Square; Playful). The fencing and signage projects would provide an opportunity for beautification and rejuvenation of the historic community and ensure it is an asset to the surrounding neighborhood.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:

The total estimated project cost is $84,240. The amount requested in the grant submission represents 89% of the total cost.

MCDC’s allocation for discretionary Project Grants for FY 18 is $1,259,745 and has a balance of $96,774 available for project grant awards.
