ITEM SUMMARY:

Teatro Dallas was seeking a $5,000 grant funding for their “Bongo Talks” performances.  There will be three performances for elementary youth:  October, 2018 at Caldwell Elementary School; November, 2018 at McNeil Elementary School; March, 2019 at Old Settlers Recreation Center.

The theme of the show is the importance of intuition, how to recognize it, and how to use it for making decisions in challenging situations.

Following the performance, children will be able to ask questions about the process of creating a play, being an artist, and general theatre questions.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Outreach Grants provide financial assistance for the costs associated with a single project, or if the applicant is applying for the first time.

Per Arts Grants Guidelines, Outreach Grants can pay up to 50% of eligible project expenses, not to exceed $3,000.

Following discussion at the July 19, 2018 McKinney Arts Commission meeting, Teatro Dallas was awarded a $3,000 Outreach Grant for “Bongo Talks”.

Commissioners requested feedback as to whether Teatro Dallas could present the programs with the reduced grant award.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:

Funding will come from the Outreach Grant budget for 2018-2019.
