RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• Approve the Resolution of Support for Census 2020
ITEM SUMMARY:
• The U.S. Census 2020 is encouraging cities to take actions to ensure that every resident is counted
• As part of the effort to ensure that every resident is counted, the City will be forming a Complete Count Committee comprised of McKinney residents
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• The U.S. Census Bureau is required by the U.S. Constitution to conduct a count of the population every ten (10) years
• Billions of dollars per year in federal and state funding are allocated to communities based on census data
• Census data helps to determine how many seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• The U.S. Census Bureau will provide marketing materials but not financial support to cities to ensure a complete and accurate count
