RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION: Acceptance of the award.

 

ITEM SUMMARY:                      

  • The Texas Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA) has presented the “Certificate of Achievement for Planning Excellence” to the City of McKinney.
  •  
  • This award recognizes the professional planning standards demonstrated by our planning staff and the support exhibited by the City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission.
  •  
  • In order to receive this award, a city must meet the APA Chapter goals for:
  • Increasing community awareness of the importance of planning;
  • Recognizing planning departments which meet certain professional requirements;
  • Enhancing neighborhood and citizen recognition of planning efforts;
  • Encouraging the funding of professional training for commissioners and staff; and
  • Aiding economic development and community image.
  •  
  • The City of McKinney has received this recognition seventeen (17) of the past eighteen (18) years.

  • BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
  • Each year a handful of communities receive recognition of this achievement.
